Eventually Paquette stopped the vehicle and left on foot and during a foot pursuit, the officer saw Paquette holding a knife, which he refused to drop and came towards the officer, authorities said.
Authorities said the officer fired his weapon and Paquette was shot and taken to a local hospital, where he is in stable condition.
No one else was in the vehicle and the officer was not physically injured. The officer was wearing a body-worn camera, which captured the moments before, during, and after the shooting, authorities said.
Paquette has been charged by Charlestown police in connection with the chase and the action towards the officer, authorities said.
The officer’s identity has not been disclosed and will not be disclosed until a formal interview takes place which is expected to happen in the next 5-10 business days, authorities said.
