PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland Art Museum is giving a sneak peek Thursday of its newest addition.

The museum has been working on a new building that it plans to open next week.

The four-floor building connects the two existing PAM buildings, and adds 100,000 square feet of new or upgraded public and gallery space. Staff said it also adds new exhibits to each floor.

“It’s incredible. We have been in a construction zone for so long,” said Sarah Krajewski, a curator with Portland Art Museum. “And we’re just thrilled now that we’re ready to open it up for people to come in and experience the art with us.”

The expanded and renovated galleries will feature a complete reinstallation of the museum’s collection, which will highlight nearly 300 new acquisitions that are rarely seen or have never been on display.

The space is meant to expand and connect what already stands as a hub for people to gather, reflect, and connect downtown.

“Art is something that is so meaningful for us in these times of challenge, and our city, I hope embraces the new building as a sign of our rejuvenation and reopening of Portland’s downtown,” said Krajewski.
