Charlie Lindgren will retake his cage for the Washington Capitals on Monday night against the Los Angeles Kings. Lindgren was the first goaltender off the ice for the Caps after the team’s morning skate and is set to play his third game this month.

Lindgren has made just five starts this fall and has not appeared since taking a 5-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on November 6. So far this season, Lindgren is 1-3-1 with a 3.59 goals-against average, a .878 save percentage, and one shutout.

“We just looked at the schedule, spoke as a staff, consulted on where we felt like we needed to get Chuckie back into the net, so we felt like this was the appropriate time,” head coach Spencer Carbery said after the team’s morning skate.

After Lindgren and Logan Thompson split goaltending duties for much of last season, Thompson has served as the team’s primary starter this fall. Thompson has started the team’s previous four games and has made 13 total starts on the season, more than double Lindgren. Carbery told reporters early in the season that he expected Lindgren to play at least once a week or so.

Since recording a 35-save shutout against the New York Rangers in his first start of the 2025-26 campaign, Lindgren has not managed to post a save percentage higher than .875 in his next four starts. He gave up up a combined 21 goals in those four games, but, according to MoneyPuck, he has still managed to save 1.7 more goals than expected this season.

In his career, Lindgren has made two starts against the Kings for a 1-1 record, with a 2.00 goals-against average and a .939 save percentage. He only has a higher career save percentage against three other teams: the Seattle Kraken (.962), the Rangers (.957), and the Winnipeg Jets (.947).

The Kings come into Monday night riding a four-game winning streak and blanked the Ottawa Senators 1-0 this past weekend. They are scoring on average 2.84 goals per game, which ranks 22nd in the NHL, one spot ahead of the Capitals (2.83).
