Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is in critical condition after a shooting in New York City early Sunday, according to a law enforcement source familiar with the investigation.
Police said they responded to the Manhattan restaurant and bar Sei Less at around 2:09 a.m. and found Boyd, 29, with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, police said. The bullet is lodged in his lung, according to the law enforcement source. Police said in an update Monday that Boyd is in “critical but stable condition.”
In a statement, a spokesperson said the Jets are “aware of the situation” and “will have no further comment at this time.”
Video Sunday morning showed police tape and vehicles blocking off the road on Seventh Avenue and West 38th Street. By the afternoon, the tape had been removed and one NYPD vehicle was on the street.
A law enforcement source said Boyd was engaged in a fight when the shooting happened. No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting as of Monday, but police are asking the public for help finding a man they believe shot Boyd in front of the Manhattan restaurant. He was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, black pants, a black cap, multi-colored sneakers and carrying a black backpack, police said.

“The unidentified individual fled the location on foot traveling eastbound on West 38 Street to parts unknown,” police said about the suspect following the shooting.
A bartender who asked not to be identified said he was working late at a nearby bar when he heard a loud bang at around 2 a.m.
Sei Less opened Sunday afternoon, and business appeared to be proceeding as usual.
A spokesperson for Sei Less said the shooting took place outside the restaurant and after it had closed.
“Since the onset of the police investigation, we have been fully cooperative with law enforcement and shared the appropriate security footage to assist their inquiry. The safety of our customers and employees is of utmost importance and we take tremendous pride in having cultivated a safe and welcoming dining environment for all,” the spokesperson said.
Boyd, a Texas native who played at the University of Texas, began his NFL career in 2019 when the Minnesota Vikings selected him in the seventh round of the draft.
He spent four seasons with the Vikings before he signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023, but he was eventually released from the team later that year. He was then signed to the Houston Texans’ practice squad, where he stayed for two seasons.
In March, Boyd signed a one-year contract with the Jets. He has been out because of an injury since the summer.
Police are encouraging anyone with information regarding the incident to get in touch.
