Apopka City Commissioner Nick Nesta
From Staff Reports
Apopka City Commissioner Nick Nesta announced his candidacy for Mayor of Apopka in a statement he released to The Apopka Voice on Monday night. He joins challengers Matthew Aungst, Orange County Commissioner Christine Moore, and incumbent Mayor Bryan Nelson in what is now a four-person field.
In the release, Nesta’s campaign writes:
Nick Nesta Announces Campaign for Mayor of Apopka
Focused on Transparency, Responsible Growth, and Restoring Public Trust
Community leader and longtime Apopka resident Nick Nesta officially announced today that he is running for Mayor of Apopka, committing to a leadership style grounded in transparency, accountability, and responsible planning for the city’s future.
“Apopka is a remarkable city with incredible potential,” Nesta said. “But to protect that potential, we need leadership that puts residents first, manages growth responsibly, and ensures city hall operates efficiently and openly for everyone.”
Nesta, who has been deeply involved in local civic efforts, outlined three core priorities for his campaign:
Strengthening Apopka’s infrastructure
Supporting city employees and public safety personnel
Restoring fiscal accountability through a full operational and infrastructure audit
“Our city staff works tirelessly to serve our residents, often with limited resources,” Nesta said. “We need to invest in them, improve our processes, and make sure taxpayer dollars are being used wisely. Every decision made at city hall must reinforce the trust between residents and their government.”
Nesta emphasized that Apopka’s rapid growth demands responsible planning, not rushed or reactive development. “Growth must make sense for Apopka’s long-term needs,” Nesta said. “When development outpaces planning, it strains our roads, schools, utilities, and public services. That’s not fair to the families who already call Apopka home.”
With this announcement, Nesta begins his campaign, focusing on engaging residents directly, listening to their concerns, and presenting a vision that keeps Apopka a safe, strong, and welcoming community for generations to come.”
Nesta also released his campaign email (nickforapopka@gmail.com) and website (nickforapopka.com) in the release.
According to the Apopka City Charter, Nesta must vacate Seat #4 on the City Commission to run for mayor, which will necessitate a special election for that seat. Seats #1 and #2 are also up for election this cycle.
This is breaking news and will be updated in future editions of The Apopka Voice.
