Angel Reese hasn’t touched a competitive basketball court since the Chicago Sky wrapped up their rough 2025 season. But her impact hasn’t dimmed one bit. Fans still track her every move, and when one asked on social media when they’d see her hooping again, Reese delivered a one-word reply that set the internet buzzing. Her message was mysterious enough to ignite fresh speculation about her return.

Angel Reese Posts a Short Message on Her Return

Chicago Sky star Reese replied to a fan on X who said they missed watching her play. Her response was simple and instantly explosive online: “SOON. 😉”

The message must have electrified her fanbase, who have been waiting for any hint of her basketball return after a standout 2025 WNBA season.

Reese became one of the league’s most popular rising stars thanks to her elite rebounding, historic performances, and a second consecutive All-Star selection this year. She delivered clutch games and even recorded her first career triple-double back in June.

Despite her brilliance, the Sky struggled to a 10-34 finish and missed the playoffs. Reese also battled a back injury that limited her to 30 games, but her production kept her firmly among the league’s most impactful players. That only fueled fan anticipation for her comeback, making her “SOON” message feel like a genuine tease.

But as promising as it sounds, Reese’s return to competitive basketball is not actually imminent.

Reese Won’t Return to Hoop Soon

While Reese’s message thrilled fans, the reality is more measured. The next WNBA season does not begin until May 2026, meaning supporters won’t see her in league play until then.

The only potential avenue for an earlier return was the Unrivaled 3×3 league, where Reese starred last season for Rose BC, winning Defensive Player of the Year and helping her team secure the inaugural championship.

But she has officially opted out of the 2026 season of Unrivaled. After battling back issues throughout 2025, Reese is prioritizing a full recovery ahead of her third WNBA campaign. Skipping the January–March 3×3 season gives her the chance to fully reset physically.

However, even during her recovery, Reese has remained a cultural force. She appeared in the Victoria’s Secret fashion show and continued building her brand. Her on-court résumé keeps growing too: fastest in league history to reach 500 points and 500 rebounds, breaking Tina Charles’ record, and another All-Star selection.

So while SOON may not refer to immediate basketball action, it reflects something else: Reese is gearing up and preparing to deliver an even bigger 2026 season.
