Cynthia Erivo is powering through the press duties for Wicked: For Good despite illness, holding hands with co-star Ariana Grande at the NYC premiere.

The co-stars walked the red carpet together during the film’s final premiere event on Monday (November 17) at Lincoln Center in New York City.

Ariana and Cynthia were joined at the event by co-stars Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum (with wife Emilie Livingston), Ethan Slater, and Marissa Bode, as well as child actors Karis Musongole, Cesily Collette Taylor, and Scarlett Spears, who play young Elphaba, Nessarose, and Glinda, respectively.

Ahead of the premiere, Universal reps announced that Cynthia had fallen ill and lost her voice, so she would have to skip red carpet interviews. Ariana decided to skip them too in solidarity.

During the official red carpet live stream, the ladies did stop for a quick interview.

“I’m not letting her speak. She has to rest her voice!” Ariana said. “It’s so full circle to be in New York City where the Gershwin [Theatre] is, where Wicked is and to be celebrating tonight together.”

Cynthia, with a very hoarse voice, briefly spoke and said, “It’s really beautiful that we’re finishing here, where it started.”

Look back at 12 actors who auditioned for the movies, but didn’t get the roles.

FYI: Cynthia is wearing Balenciaga. Ariana is wearing Schiaparelli Haute Couture.
