HMD Secure has introduced the HMD Terra M, a compact and ultra-rugged smart feature phone designed for fast, reliable communication in demanding and dangerous environments. The device will be available in Q1 2026.

Terra M follows the launch of the fully European-built HMD Ivalo XE (Nokia phone), strengthening HMD’s strategy of offering secure, sovereign and long-lasting mobility solutions for governments, defence forces, public safety agencies, industrial teams and critical infrastructure operators.

Not a smartphone — but equipped with mission-critical apps
Although Terra M is not a smartphone, it comes with pre-installed, enterprise-grade apps for secure communication and navigation, depending on the customer’s requirements. These include services such as:

Zello (Push-to-Talk)
Threema (secure messaging)
OsmAnd (offline navigation)
Lyfo (network optimisation)
Mobile Tornado
SOTI MobiControl (MDM support)

This makes it a specialised device, simple, durable, easy to use, but able to integrate into professional communication systems that usually require smartphones.

Built for extreme environments
HMD Terra M is engineered to meet MIL-STD-810H durability¹ and IP68/IP69K protection², withstanding drops up to 1.8 metres³.

Key features include:

2.8-inch glove-friendly touchscreen
Programmable Push-to-Talk and emergency keys
High-output loudspeaker for noisy worksites
Pre-loaded enterprise apps and secure MDM enrolment
Up to 10 days of standby time⁴
4G, VoLTE, VoWi-Fi, hotspot mode, NFC, dual SIM + eSIM
Qualcomm Dragonwing QCM2290 chipset
5 years of quarterly security updates

The device is aimed at frontline workers, industrial teams, transport and logistics crews, and emergency responders who need instant, reliable communication without the complexity of a smartphone.

Mission-ready accessories
HMD is also introducing a set of rugged accessories, such as:

A stackable multi-charging cradle for up to 10 devices⁵
A durable belt-clip holster

These are designed for shift-based work and rapid deployment of devices in the field.

A step forward for HMD Secure
According to Jean-François Baril, HMD’s founder, CEO and Chairman, Terra M is “a powerful step forward in establishing HMD Secure as a new force in mission-critical mobility.” Together with Ivalo XE, it signals HMD’s ambition to build a dedicated ecosystem for secure and sovereign European-built technology.
