USC’s big postseason dreams got a little closer on Tuesday with the Trojans moving up to No. 15 (+2) in the updated College Football Playoff rankings. This is the second consecutive week the Trojans have rose in the CFP rankings. USC debuted at No. 19 in the CFP.

The Trojans (8-2, 6-1) are No. 16 in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Top 25 poll.

USC will put its College Football Playoff chances on the table this weekend in Eugene to face No. 7 Oregon. The Ducks (9-1, 6-1) represents the big final obstacles for USC’s quest to make the College Football Playoffs; the Trojans are on a three-game losing streak to Oregon and have not won in Eugene since 2011.

Oregon is coming off a 42-13 thrashing on Minnesota on Friday night, giving the Ducks an extra day of rest and prep for the Trojans.

ESPN’s Football Power Index gives the Trojans a 17.3 percent chance to make the playoffs. The ESPN Analytics give USC a 28 percent chance to beat Oregon on the road.

USC is coming off a hard-fought 26-21 comeback win over Iowa in the Coliseum.

“That’s a culture win, right there. If there ever was one, that was a culture win. We didn’t play very good football in the first half. Our team’s resilience and response at halftime was impressive. We brought the guys up right away when we came in at the half, which we don’t typically do. You could tell from the look in their eye that they knew we didn’t play our best, and they knew we could go out and really make a run at this thing,” said head coach Lincoln Riley. “This team’s resilience, whether it’s a tough stretch of plays, whether it’s losing some players here and there throughout the year and obviously happened some in this game. We just keep coming, and we have all year. That was a big, big time team win. All three sides were really, really good there in the second half, and to comeback and get that done was a really cool feeling. Just a great moment out there in the Coliseum for our whole program.”

USC’s Makai Lemon recorded another massive game with 10 receptions for 153 yards and a TD while the defense posted another strong performance out of halftime, shutting out the Hawkeyes offense. The defense has allowed just six points in the second halves of their last three wins.
