Claire Danes is opening up about an unplanned “blessing” — getting pregnant at 44.
The subject came up on the SmartLess podcast, when hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett were remarking on her home and how it looks like “it could be a brownstone.” The Beast in Me star, 46, told the gang that it is, in fact, a brownstone, which she and her husband Hugh Dancy moved into because they “had this oopsy daisy third baby” in 2023.
“I was so old when that happened. I was 44,” Danes said, and admitted she “didn’t think it was possible” for her to still get pregnant at that age. Dancy, 50, and Danes are also parents to two sons born in 2012 and 2018.
“I did not foresee this at all. And it was weird. Suddenly, I felt like a funny shame,” she explained. “Like I was naughty. Like I had been caught fornicating past the point I was meant to. No, it was weird, and it was like I found an edge that I hadn’t been quite conscious of — like I was going outside of the parameters a little bit. That was wild.”

Bateman then clarified if this third child was a girl, which Danes confirmed. This prompted the Ozark star to joke that Danes would have “been pissed off” if she’d had another boy.
“I got really, really lucky,” Danes replied. “I mean, my OB-GYN was like, ‘You know you’re having another boy.’ But no!” To Bateman’s assertion that she would have been upset with that outcome, she said she “would have been delighted” to have one more boy, but ultimately she’s even “more delighted” to have a daughter in the family now.
“Yeah, she’s pretty cool,” Danes said of her daughter, adding that she “loves a tutu,” prompting the hosts to say, almost in unison, “Who doesn’t? Who doesn’t?”
