PLUMAS COUNTY, Calif. – A newly identified wolf pack, named the “Grizzly Pack,” has been spotted in southern Plumas County. This discovery adds to California’s existing 10 wolf packs.
The Grizzly Pack consists of two adults and one pup. Other wolf packs in Plumas County include the Diamond and Lassen packs, while Tehama County is home to the Ishi and Ice Cave packs. Shasta County has the Ashpan and Harvey packs.
Through October, Fish and Wildlife investigated 239 reports of wolf attacks on livestock, confirming 175 of them. More than half of these attacks, totaling 88, were attributed to the Beyem Seyo Pack in Sierra County.
Last month, Fish and Wildlife euthanized four members of the Beyem Seyo Pack, effectively eliminating it. The Beyem Seyo Pack was linked to an unprecedented level of livestock attacks across the Sierra Valley. Officials said the wolves had become accustomed to preying on cattle and were teaching this behavior to their offspring.
Fish and Wildlife was working to relocate any remaining juveniles from the Beyem Seyo Pack to wildlife facilities.
