Kyra Richter has a unique pet: a prairie dog named Potato. She shares videos of his daily antics on her social media channels, and in this one, he’s hard at work after finding new materials to add to his den.
Make sure your sound is on for this one because his adorable tippy taps as he runs back and forth are music to our ears!
Kyra said, “Potato was busy today!” cleaning up his den, and we can all agree it was a joy to watch him work! It’s hard to find good help these days, and we’d hire him in a second!
Viewers loved watching the adorable prairie dog get the job done and left more than 2,500 comments about him. @mama pris pointed out, “He’s getting ready for winter!” Another commenter agreed, “This was hands down the best 2 minutes of my life this week LOL! It was like watching the hard work of hibernation preparation!!”
@jennytravis12345 asked what we were all wondering, “Aww, so sweet. Where’s he getting the fluffy stuff for his nest?” Kyra replied, “I put fluff in a box and sealed it. Then made a small hole for him to eventually ‘discover’.”
@wilp323 made us laugh when he said what Potato was thinking, “He said ‘I hit the jackpot!’ lol!” @bessmotta added, “Potato! What’s the rush, sweetie? So much running, no wonder you needed a break to look out the window.”

All About Prairie Dogs
Many commenters shared they wanted a prairie dog of their own, but beware! Make sure to check whether prairie dogs are legal where you live. Some states prohibit having them as pets for health and wildlife-related reasons, so it’s definitely worth doing your homework first!
The name ‘prairie dog’ is misleading since they aren’t related to dogs at all; they’re related to groundhogs, chipmunks, marmots, and woodchucks. They got the ‘dog’ part of their name because, when they scream, it sounds like barking.
Here’s a fun fact shared by the World Wildlife Fund: Prairie dogs create intricate underground colonies, known as prairie dog towns, that not only provide shelter for them, but also create shelter for jackrabbits, toads, and even rattlesnakes!
