ABC World News Tonight with David Muir earned the unique distinction of being the only evening newscast to experience no viewership loss in total viewers or the Adults 25-54 demo for the week of July 14.
Additionally, WNT was the only broadcast to show growth in either of the measured categories as it saw gains in the demo. As for the other two evening newscasts, they experienced slight declines across the board.Â
According to live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen, ABC World News Tonight averaged 7.266 million total viewers and 1.037 million Adults 25-54 demo viewers for the week of July 14. It was flat in total viewers and saw a +5% rise in the demo compared to the previous week. Looking at its performance to the same week in 2024 (the week beginning July 15), WNT was up +5% in total viewers and +7% in the demo.
NBC Nightly News with Tom Llamas finished in second place in total viewers and the demo, averaging 5.583 million and 838,000 viewers, respectively. The broadcast was down -1% in total viewers and -2% in the A25-54 demo. However, NBC News should be pleased with Llamas’ performance, as the Tuesday edition of NBC Nightly News finished ahead of ABC World News Tonight in the advertiser-coveted demo, with 997,000 viewers vs. 870,000 demo viewers at ABC News. This was Nightly News’ second-largest demo win of the current season.
When comparing its performance to the same week a year ago, Nightly News registered increases of +1% in total viewers and experienced double-digit growth of +14% in the demo.Â
CBS Evening News had 3.775 million total viewers and 498,000 viewers in the demo for the week of July 14. The broadcast was down -3% in total viewers and -1% in the demo compared to the week prior. Its year-ago week numbers were down by -6% in total viewers and -9% in the demo.Â
