Burnley had their moments in the first half, the wide men causing some bother when the ball went long. But Sánchez was not required to make a difficult save and Chelsea looked very comfortable once Pedro Neto’s header provided the lead.

Broja twists and turns in the area but his shot doesn’t trouble Sánchez one bit. The whistle arrives and Chelsea move past Manchester City.

Chelsea counter down the right, with Neto finding Guiu. The forward is into the area, wriggling past Tuanzebe and cutting back for the onrushing Fernández to smash in to the net. It’s another brilliant move, with the keeper Sánchez involved in the initial buildup.

47 min: Anthony finds the ball out on Burnley’s left and plays it back to Hartman … whose cross lacks air and power. Chelsea counter, the move ending with a João Pedro shot that travels high.

46 min: And we’re back, with Burnley kicking off. Dubravka sends it over to the right wing before the ball is wheeled back.

42 min: “C’mon Burnley,” shout the home supporters, but Chelsea are starting to click. Delap can’t nail his cross from the left after a quick break by the visitors.

40 min: Neto gets a yellow for some timewasting it seems.

The ball is sent long to Cucurella inside the Burnley area. He lays it down and passes back to Gittens. The left winger delivers a lovely curling cross to the far post, with Neto arriving for a diving header past Dubravka. That’s a terrific move.
