Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent teased an administration announcement on healthcare costs coming this week, but didn’t offer more details on that to NBC News’ Meet the Press.
But the subsidies that millions of Americans use to lower the cost of their premiums for healthcare plans under the Affordable Care Act continue to be a contentious political issue. Lawmakers have to decide whether to extend them before the end of the year. If they are allowed to expire, plan premium costs are set to soar.
Medicare administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz told CNN’s State of the Union that there were discussions around extending the subsidies. The administration is willing to look at all options on healthcare, he said.
