Gear up — the battle for Hawkins begins in just a few days.

The final trailer has arrived for Volume 1 of Stranger Things season 5, teasing the gang’s plan to take their final stand against Vecna, the creature once known as Henry Creel (played by Jamie Campbell Bower).

The fifth and final season of the nostalgic sci-fi saga picks up in the fall of 1987, more than a year after the events of season 4. After being sprawled out across the globe, the team is back together for the fight of their lives. But things in Hawkins have changed: The military is occupying the town, and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) is back in hiding, training for Vecna’s re-emergence as she dodges the government. Eventually, a rebuilt Vecna returns — and the young warriors must spring into action.

If you thought the Battle of Starcourt was rough, you’d better brace yourself for the horrors on the horizon. The Hawkins crew aren’t just fighting the Mind Flayer this time — they’re going head-to-head with 001 himself. And they’re not kidding around.

“We have a plan,” Mike (Finn Wolfhard) declares. “It’s a bit insane.”

“What could go wrong?” asks a nervous Robin (Maya Hawke).

“No idea,” replies Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo). “But I think we should find out.”

The trailer indeed finds the gang up to their usual chaotic, perilous antics: speeding down the streets of Hawkins, averting military attention, and wielding fire and crowbars against demodogs. There are also glimpses of El using her psychic powers while her friends work to detonate some explosives.

In one ominous moment, the original crew — Mike, Dustin, Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), and Will (Noah Schnapp) — plot their next course of action.

“Everyone in?” Dustin asks, as they put their hands together.

Wearing his Hellfire Club shirt in honor of their fallen friend Eddie, he then declares, “I want to see Vecna’s heart on a platter.”

While speaking to Entertainment Weekly earlier this month, the Duffer Brothers teased that much of the season will take place in the frightening dimension where Vecna resides.

“These gates have opened up,” Ross said. “We have a full military present in Hawkins and it’s under quarantine. I will say, of course the military is doing stuff in the Upside Down, but it really is a mystery to our characters and the audience for the beginning of the show.”

Added Matt, “We reveal really everything about the Upside Down, all of which was planned out in season 1. It was fun to finally pull back the curtain on all of that.”

The first four episodes of Stranger Things season 5 hit Netflix on Nov. 26 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. Three more episodes follow on Dec. 25, and the series finale premieres Dec. 31.
