The Washington Capitals practiced without two of their key forwards on Sunday morning.
After seeing their three-game winning streak ended by the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night, neither alternate captain Tom Wilson nor Connor McMichael took the ice for practice at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. According to the team, the two sat out for maintenance-related reasons.

Wilson, 31, skated 17:49 of ice time against the Lightning, earning the primary assist on Justin Sourdif’s game-opening goal. However, Wilson’s most notable moment in the game was his fight with 6-foot-9 forward Curtis Douglas, which he won handily.
In 22 games this season, Wilson has recorded 21 points (11g, 10a). He currently leads the Capitals in scoring, one point ahead of both Alex Ovechkin and Dylan Strome.
McMichael, 24, skated 16:16 of ice time in the loss to Tampa Bay, firing three shots on goal and going 9-8 in the faceoff circle. The 24-year-old forward has been forced back down the middle with Nic Dowd missing the past three games due to an upper-body injury.
Head coach Spencer Carbery did not rule Dowd out of the team’s next game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. If he does dress, McMichael will likely move back out onto the wing.
The Capitals will host the Blue Jackets at Capital One Arena on Monday night. The team will meet again for their customary morning skate before the game at their practice facility, so the lineup picture should become clearer then.
