The Saints are taking a look at kicker Justin Tucker’s skills. They also apparently are taking a look at why he was suspended for 10 games to start the 2025 season.
“He’s been one of their leaders for an extended period of time on a very successful team, coach Kellen Moore said Monday, via Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.football. “Obviously, there’s been some stuff that’s been unfortunate. He’s gone through an experience and I think it’s about collecting what that experience was.”
Whatever the situation was, it was enough to result in a lengthy suspension (only one game short of Deshaun Watson’s) under the Personal Conduct Policy, a suspension he accepted despite denying all accusations of misconduct during massage therapy sessions.
The bottom line is that talent buys opportunities. If Tucker shows up and makes all of his kicks from every reasonable distance, he’s more likely to get a shot with the Saints. If he’s shaky and inconsistent, he won’t.
Tucker’s history is enough, in the view of the Saints, to get him a chance to show what he can do. And the Saints surely have considered the impact their flirtation with Tucker may have on some of the fanbase.
Especially since kicker is one of many current problems the 2-9 Saints currently have.
