Rabid Animal Reported

DEANSBORO, N.Y. — A raccoon in Deansboro has tested positive for rabies.

The Oneida County Health Department reported that the raccoon was sent to the New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Center for testing on Nov. 24, and positive results were confirmed on Nov. 25.

There are no known exposures at this time.

Residents are urged to recognize signs of rabies, which include animals acting strangely, mad, or shy, getting unusually close and drooling or foaming from the mouth.
