Radio host Rick Burgess thanked listeners for prayers and shows of support Tuesday as he returned to radio.
“How ‘bout it, America. Good to be back,” he said in a video posted to social media.
Burgess’ appearance came a day after he responded to questions about an absence from “The Rick Burgess Show.”
In a Facebook post Monday morning, Burgess asked for prayer as he dealt with personal issues:
“Many of you have questions about my absence from the show,” he wrote.
“The bottom line is while the show and all the platforms connected are a huge responsibility and very important to me, however my family desperately needs me right now and they will always take priority. Please pray.”
On Tuesday, Burgess acknowledged his audience’s shows of support.
“Thank you so much for your kindness and all your prayers and encouraging emails,” he said. “It has been a pit. Have been battling. It is good to be back. Things are good and I’m excited. I have missed being here with the guys.”
Burgess’ former long-time radio partner, Bill “Bubba” Bussey, recently acknowledged the end of their partnership in a podcast.
The duo, billed as the “two sexiest fat men” alive, signed off for the last time a little more than 11 months ago. They had co-hosted a popular morning radio show for more than 30 years.
“It was not my choice to end the show,” Bussey said. “Rick and I were partners. We both had the nuclear keys, so to speak. Rick chose to turn it and do his own thing. And so, he had the option, he took it. I didn’t particularly want the show to end at that point. And I really didn’t care for some of the way that it was presented to me. But he had the right to do it, so he did, and I wish him nothing but luck.”
