Banking millions on the tennis court hasn’t curbed Jelena Ostapenko‘s entrepreneurial spirit in the slightest. That’s after fans spotted the former French Open champion selling off some of her possessions for as little as £4.
Ostapenko, 28, announced herself on the pro circuit when she beat Simona Halep to win the 2017 French Open at just 20 years of age. That remains her only major title to date, though she has continued to bank some considerable sums playing on the WTA Tour since then. The Latvian has earned a little more than £14million through her tennis exploits alone, and that’s without any brand deals and endorsements she has to her name. Ostapenko also beat world No1 Aryna Sabalenka at the Porsche Grand Prix in April to get her hands on a brand new Porsche Macan Turbo, believed to be worth around £100,000.
And yet the one-time Slam champion continues to supplement her tennis earnings by cashing in on her personal belongings. And there’s no item too small for Ostapenko, as evidenced by some of the frugal listings fans can get their hands on.
Using a private secondary account on Instagram, Ostapenko hopes to “give a second life” to some of her possessions deemed surplus to requirements. And this includes anything from perfume samples to storage boxes that have outlived their use.
Fans couldn’t help but notice as the veteran tennis talent was recently seen unveiling another new Porsche purchase in one post. Then, later in the same day, Ostapenko brought attention to a pair of wicker storage boxes going for just £4 apiece on her selling account.
One has to admire the grind on display, which clearly isn’t limited to Ostapenko’s workrate around the court. And while others in her position might take to simply throwing out certain items she no longer wants, she instead sees opportunity.
Of her considerable on-court winnings, Ostapenko has won around £1.7m of that fortune in 2025 alone. That’s despite the fact her last three singles tournament appearances have each ended at the first hurdle.
She’s had more success in doubles, however, after she linked up with Hsieh Su-wei at this year’s WTA Finals in Riyadh. It was there the pair ventured as far as the semi-finals before they lost out to eventual runners-up Timea Babos and Luisa Stefani.
Following the end of the tennis season, Ostapenko has been spotted soaking up some sun in the Maldives as she enjoys a well-deserved rest. And she’s clearly not stuck for a penny given the Baglioni Resort where she stayed charges a minimum of £900-per-night for an all-inclusive experience.
It pays to be a little frugal, it seems, and Ostapenko’s mindset on getting the most out of her belongings should be celebrated. Even if it’s not the norm to see today’s sports stars auctioning off their discarded goods.
