The death toll from the Hong Kong high-rise apartment complex fire has risen to 128, the Hong Kong government says.
According to Xinhua News Agency on the 28th, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Security Director Christang told a briefing this afternoon that the fire has killed 128 people so far, and more bodies could be found in the future. The number of people injured was counted as 79.
Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that the situation of the missing, which was announced to have reached 200 people early the previous day, is currently unclear.
The fire broke out at 2:52 p.m. (local time) on the 26th at Wong Fuk Court, a 32-story residential high-rise apartment complex in Tai Po, northern Hong Kong.
Seven out of eight apartment complexes with 2,000 households caught fire, and local fire authorities had difficulty in the strong fire and completed the extinguishing work at 10:18 a.m. on the same day, about 43 hours later.
