According to officials, individuals who visited Amazing Savings, 59 NY-59 in Monsey, on Monday, November 17 between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m., or Target, 50 Spring Valley Market Place, on Tuesday, November 18 between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m., may have been exposed.
The Health Department urges anyone who was at either location during those time frames—especially those in high-risk groups—to immediately contact their healthcare provider by phone before seeking in-person care. High-risk groups include pregnant women, infants under six months old, immunocompromised or immunosuppressed individuals, and anyone who has not been vaccinated against measles.
Health officials warn that measles is one of the most contagious viruses in the world. An estimated 90 percent of unvaccinated people who are exposed will become infected. Transmission can occur simply by being in the same room as an infected person, up to two hours after they have left—often before they even show a rash.
Symptoms typically develop 10 to 12 days after exposure, but can appear as early as seven days and as late as 21 days. Severe complications, including pneumonia, encephalitis, and even death, can occur in unvaccinated individuals.
Residents with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact their healthcare provider or consult the Rockland County Department of Health.
