It may be the offseason, but Paige Bueckers and Sonia Citron — two standout rookies from the 2025 WNBA campaign — are still making waves away from the hardwood, with a recent story revealing the pair dominated an NBA great during an offseason run.

Former All-Star point guard Stephon Marbury, a star of the 2000s, shared on Instagram that his squad was thoroughly outplayed by a group led by the two WNBA standouts.

“So I’m walking with a limp, and I’m not talking about my legs, my legs feel good. But we got crushed by Paige Bueckers and Sonia Citron and Charlie V (Charlie Villanueva), Monta (Ellis) and Josh Howard,” he said.
“They just smashed us. They just start making shots like pros. Swish, swish, swish. And these guys ain’t even work out. WellBall. It was crazy.”

Bueckers and Citron take part in the Dallas-based Wellball VIP league, which includes several of the city’s notable basketball names. Along with Marbury, Villanueva, Ellis, Howard and former NBA forward Al Harrington also hit the court.

Wellball VIP is billed as a 3×3 shooting-based game aimed at being non-contact and low-impact. The league’s website describes it as the “pickleball of basketball,” highlighting a fast, competitive format where skill outweighs athleticism.

The setup features players going head-to-head in shooting contests, firing over a rim-mounted device called The Well, which controls the game’s pace. The rules remove dribbling and defense entirely, shifting the focus purely to shot-making.

Paige Bueckers set to play in Season 2 of Unrivaled

Coming off a rookie year with the Dallas Wings in which she won Rookie of the Year after averaging 19.2 points, 5.4 assists and 3.9 rebounds, Paige Bueckers will officially make her Unrivaled debut next month.

Bueckers will join the newly formed Breeze BC, a roster built around rising WNBA talent, including Seattle’s Dominique Malonga, LA’s Rickea Jackson and Cameron Brink, Indiana guard Aari McDonald and Golden State Valkyries guard Kate Martion.

Unrivaled is slated to open on Monday, Jan. 5. Its 1-on-1 tournament returns in February, with the league’s championship set for Wednesday, March 4.

Opening day will wrap up with Phantom BC vs. Breeze BC, featuring Kelsey Plum and Bueckers making their first Unrivaled appearances.
