The NBA Cup 2025 quarter-finals are officially here.
Eight basketball teams have arrived at the in-season tournament’s knockout stage, with six advancing as group winners and two coming as conference wild cards.
In the West, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander‘s Oklahoma City Thunder clinched their spot in the quarters after finishing top of Group A with a 4-0 record.
It was another impressive milestone in what has been a hot start to the season for the NBA reigning champions. And they seem unlikely to stop there with a match-up against the West’s wild card, the Phoenix Suns, up next in Cup proceedings.
Also finishing 4-0 in the West was the Los Angeles Lakers.
Luka Dončić tucked away 35 points and 11 assists in the final group game against the Dallas Mavericks to help the 2023 champions finish perfect and set up a quarter-final meeting against familiar rivals, the San Antonio Spurs, who held off the Denver Nuggets to finish atop Group C.
Whatever happens between now and the NBA Cup championship decider on 16 December, there will be a new title holder, with last year’s winners, the Milwaukee Bucks, now out of contention.
Despite the return of Giannis Antetokounmpo from a four-game injury absence, they were eliminated by the New York Knicks, who advance as the East’s Group C winner, with a 3-1 record. They will match up against the Toronto Raptors, who, along with the Orlando Magic, finished 4-0 in the other two groups in the Eastern Conference.
All games from the NBA Cup from now on are single-elimination and will continue to count towards teams’ regular season games, with the notable exception of the final.
