LIVE FROM KCRA THREE NEWS. WE BEGIN WITH BREAKING NEWS. AN UPDATE NOW ON THAT BREAKING NEWS WE’VE BEEN TRACKING OUT OF SACRAMENTO COUNTY FROM VERY EARLY THIS MORNING. THAT STANDOFF WITH A MAN WHO OFFICIALS SAY SHOT AT A DEPUTY HAS ENDED. OFFICIALS ARE CONFIRMING THAT THE MAN TOOK HIS LIFE. THE INCIDENT STARTED JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT ON 44TH AVENUE, RIGHT NEAR MARTIN LUTHER KING JUNIOR BOULEVARD. LET’S GET TO KCRA 3’S LETICIA ORDAZ LIVE AT THE SCENE WITH THE VERY LATEST LETICIA. MIKE AND MELANIE. GOOD MORNING. THIS WENT ON FOR MORE THAN FIVE HOURS AND MORE THAN 50 DEPUTIES, INCLUDING THE SWAT TEAM, WAS OUT HERE TRYING TO GET THIS MAN TO SURRENDER PEACEFULLY. ALTHOUGH THIS INCIDENT IS NOW OVER, IT’S NOT HOW DEPUTIES WANTED THIS TO END. AND HERE WITH US NOW IS SERGEANT MARK GANDHI TO TELL US HOW THIS ALL UNFOLDED. JUST AFTER SIX THIS MORNING? YEAH, UNFORTUNATELY, IT’S ACTUALLY ALMOST RIGHT. WHEN WE WERE SPEAKING. UNFORTUNATELY, THE SUSPECT DID WIND UP SHOOTING HIMSELF AND IS NOW DECEASED. WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT HIS STATE OF MIND WHEN THIS WAS HAPPENING? AGAIN, HE WAS HE WAS KIND OF ALL OVER THE PLACE, A LITTLE FRANTIC, OBVIOUSLY NOT WANTING TO SURRENDER WHEN WE’VE BEEN ASKING HIM FOR ABOUT FIVE HOURS. KIND OF GOT TO A POINT WITH HIM THAT HE FOLLOWED THROUGH ON SOME OF THE THREATS HE MADE. ALL RIGHT. DO WE KNOW IF HE WAS INTOXICATED, ON DRUGS, ANYTHING LIKE THAT? HARD TO TELL. AGAIN, JUST EXHIBITED SOME SYMPTOMS OF PERHAPS BEING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF SOMETHING, OBVIOUSLY. TOXICOLOGY REPORTS AND ALL THAT STUFF WILL COME OUT LATER AND MAYBE SHED SOME LIGHT ON THAT. RIGHT. THIS NEIGHBORHOOD WENT THROUGH A LOT. SCARY MOMENTS. HERE IT IS NOW OVER FOR THEM. WHAT DO YOU WANT TO TELL THEM ABOUT THEIR SAFETY NOW? AND THE BIGGEST THING IS WE APPRECIATE THEIR PATIENCE. WE KNOW THE STRAIN IT PUTS ON PEOPLE’S DAILY LIVES, ESPECIALLY BEING WOKEN UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. NOT THE ENDING WE HOPE FOR, BUT ULTIMATELY THE PUBLIC IS SAFE RIGHT NOW AND THEY CAN KIND OF RESUME LIFE AS NORMAL. OKAY. AND AS FAR AS THAT INITIAL CALL, IT WAS A DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INCIDENT. IS THAT WOMAN OKAY? YES SHE IS. AND AGAIN, RIGHT NOW, THE BIG TRAGEDY IS THAT THE SUSPECT DID WIND UP SHOOTING HIMSELF. BUT THE SILVER LINING, AGAIN, NO ONE WAS ACTUALLY HURT. DEPUTY WAS NOT HURT WHEN HE WAS SHOT AT. AND THIS OTHER INDIVIDUAL OBVIOUSLY WASN’T HARMED EITHER. SO. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU SO MUCH. AND OBVIOUSLY THE NEIGHBORHOOD IS COUNTING THEIR BLESSINGS THAT THAT OFFICER WAS ABLE TO WALK AWAY UNINJURED AFTER BEING SHOT AT ONE TIME BUT WAS NOT HIT. THAT IS THE VERY LATEST HERE REPORTING LIV
