Philadelphia Police are still urging the public to continue to attempt to call 911 in the event of an emergency and said that some calls are successfully going through despite the statewide outage. However, they’re also warning residents to not call 911 or any of their alternative emergency numbers to “test” the system.

“We are kindly requesting that you notify your viewers/readers/listeners NOT to call 911 or the district numbers in order to “test” the system,” a Philadelphia police spokesperson wrote. “We are experiencing a significant number of callers to those numbers stating that they wanted to check to see if its working.”

Philadelphia police also told NBC10 their dispatch has not been impacted by the 911 issues.

Anyone who is unable to reach 911 should call their local Philadelphia Police District directly. They also caution that residents should only call their local police district in the event of a true emergency during the outage and to not use the lines for routine matters or general business inquiries.
