A project to remove invasive Russian olive trees from Kathryn Albertson Park is set to begin on Wednesday.

The initiative will target five acres of these aggressive trees, which have been altering hydrology, displacing native vegetation, and decreasing overall biodiversity in riparian zones.

The project will ensure that all native vegetation, including willows and cottonwoods, is retained and protected on site. Revegetation efforts are planned for spring 2026.

The work is expected to take two weeks, during which some areas or paths may be closed to protect park users.

People who live in the area should be prepared for additional noise from chippers and chainsaws.

Future plans include bank stabilization with wetland sod in spring 2026 and shrub and willow planting in fall 2026. For questions or comments, individuals can contact the project team via email or phone.
