(Sidney) — Three juveniles are accused of manufacturing and disseminating obscene material using artificial intelligence technology.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office says the juveniles–two 15-year-olds and a 16-year-old–were arrested last month in connection with an investigation beginning November 19, when the department received multiple reports from parents and school officials concerning an image being shared among students at an unidentified local school. Authorities says the image depicted multiple juveniles in a state of undress. Through subsequent investigation, Fremont County deputies discovered multiple digitally altered photographs on cellular devices in the possession of students at the school. Deputies confirmed that the material, which featured numerous juvenile victims, was being shared between students utilizing social media platforms. The investigation confirmed the images were non-consensual and digitally fabricated using A-I technology.

All three juveniles face six charges of 1st degree harassment. Two of the juveniles are charged with five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of dissemination of obscene material. The third juvenile faces an additional count of sexual exploitation of a minor. Each suspect has been placed in the Council Bluffs Juvenile Detention Center. Formal charges have been sent to Fremont County Juvenile Court for further processing. The sheriff’s office is not identifying the juveniles charged due to the ages involved.
