Actress Tara Reid‘s claim that she was allegedly drugged at a hotel in the Chicago area is reportedly under question, according to Illinois police, based on the surveillance footage.
According to People and local station WFLD, the Rosemont Public Safety Department said on Wednesday, Dec. 3, that surveillance footage does not indicate Reid was drugged at the DoubleTree Chicago O’Hare Airport — Rosemont on Nov. 23.
Per People and footage of the incident that TMZ released on Wednesday, a hotel bartender covered her drink when the “American Pie” left the bar. “While video surveillance showed Tara Reid at the hotel bar, at no time did video show anyone tampering with or adding something to her drink,” police said in a statement.
“We can confirm that a bartender covered her drink when she left the bar which is standard practice for bartenders to do,” they added. USA TODAY has reached out to the Rosemont Public Safety Department for comment.
However, Reid’s representative Jane Owen told USA TODAY in a statement on Wednesday evening that the “bottom line is no one ends up in the hospital incapacitated for over 8 hours after a drink.”
Tara Reid addresses claims that she was not drugged at hotel bar
“Last thing I remember is having one drink and waking up in the hospital the next day without remembering anything,” Reid said in the statement. “That was the scariest feeling I have ever felt.”
The department, per WFLD, said that while no criminal act has been committed as of now, officials are awaiting hospital records that could reveal chemical testing results. “While we do not have any evidence that a drink was tampered with, it is a good reminder to never leave a drink unattended,” police told WFLD in a statement Wednesday. “If you ever believe you have been drugged or feel unsafe, please reach out to local authorities.”
But the 50-year-old actress stands by her claim that she was drugged, an experience she called “horrifying,” adding that she “felt so helpless.”
“This has been a horrifying experience for me that is severely affecting my mental health,” Reid continued. “I cannot sleep over this, it’s a very scary feeling not knowing what happened to me. I believe I was drugged. Something happened to me.”
What happened to Tara Reid at a Chicago hotel bar?
Reid filed a police report last month following the incident, and at the time, was “cooperating fully” with the authorities’ investigation, her representative said in a statement to USA TODAY on Nov. 24.
Reid told TMZ she was hospitalized on Nov. 23 after falling unconscious during her stay at the hotel. The outlet shared footage of what appeared to be hotel security helping Reid into a wheelchair following the incident. While seemingly incoherent, she was placed on a stretcher as paramedics transferred her from the hotel.
She said she stepped outside to smoke a cigarette and returned to find her drink covered with a napkin that she hadn’t used, which she removed and then drank.
