NSYNC star Lance Bass gives back at the Giving Machine – Deseret News

When Lance Bass heard no one had done the “777 challenge” yet at the Giving Machine in Los Angeles, he said “It’s Gonna Be Me.”

The NSYNC star was at The Grove in Los Angeles for its annual Christmas tree lighting, which Bass hosted.

The red carpet for the star-studded event was next to the Light the World Giving Machines, Kristin Samuelian, the area director for the Southern California Giving Machines, told the Deseret News.

“It was amazing to me how many of these celebrities, again, organically, came over to see what was going on, and as soon as you tell them — I mean, you get one or two sentences out, and they love it,” Samuelian said.

Bass was one of the celebrities who made his way over to the Giving Machines, where he learned about the “777 Challenge.”

“So if you put in the code, ’777,’ you can actually give to every single item in the machine and that varies across the machines, but it’s usually about $1,700,” Samuelian said. “So Lance was so moved he couldn’t decide which item to give because they’re all so compelling that he said, ‘Yeah, let me do them all.’”

The Giving Machine Southern California shared a video on Facebook of Bass’ visit to the Giving Machine.

“We gotta do music for sure,” Bass said while perusing the Giving Machines’ available donations.

In the video, someone tells the singer, “Well, if you do ’777,’ it buys one of everything.”

“Oh really?” Bass said.

He then found out he would be the first to purchase the 777 at that Giving Machine this year.

“Well, I’m doing it,” he said.

The Light the World Giving Machines aren’t your typical vending machines. At the one-of-a-kind vending machines sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, patrons purchase donations for individuals in need around the world.

The Giving Machines recently opened for the 2025 Christmas season.

Last year, the Giving Machines raised over $16 million, as the Deseret News previously reported, and more than $50 million has been raised since the Giving Machines’ inception in 2017.

This year, Giving Machines are in more locations than ever before, expanding to nine new countries across the world, as the Deseret News reported
