Boston College starting quarterback Dylan Lonergan has entered the transfer portal. The former Alabama transfer came to Boston College this off season reuniting with Bill O’Brien who recruited him to Tuscaloosa. This is a big surprise as Lonergan had two years of eligibility remaining.

Lonergan won the starting job this summer, beating out incumbent Grayson James. He came out on fire and threw for nine touchdowns through the first three games. After struggling he was benched for James who started against Louisville and UConn. But Lonergan rallied and came back and looked strong against Georgia Tech throwing for 362 yards and a pair of touchdowns. In the season finale he injured his thumb against Syracuse on one of the first plays of the game and never returned.

“I thought he did a lot of good things. There’s a lot to work on. He’d be the first to tell you that,” said Bill O’Brien after the season opening. “Got to be more consistent overall. Not just him, but offensively, kind of got a little sluggish there with a few series in the first half.”

During his time at Alabama, Lonergan did not play significant snaps.

The Eagles now have three quarterbacks on the roster. Redshirt freshman Shaker Reisig and true freshmen Femi Babalola and Anthony Coellner. Would expect the Eagles to be active in the quarterback transfer portal pool now that they have lost Lonergan.
