LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — Lynchburg Water Resources is revisiting an effort to protect drinking water citywide.
The program – the Pure Pipe Initiative – aims to remove every remaining lead or galvanized service line by the year 2037.

Now, residents with lead, galvanized, or unknown service lines are receiving required annual notices as the city works to identify and replace old pipes. Those notices are asking residents to complete a survey.
The pictures above show the difference between the lead, copper and galvanized pipes. As part of the initiative, the city is offering free service line identification and replacement to help homeowners confirm and upgrade their pipes at no cost.
