CLINTON, Wis –A boil water notice has been issued in the Village of Clinton after a water main break occurred on Saturday morning. This notice indicates that tap water may be contaminated and is not safe to drink without boiling.
The notice will remain in effect until village officials can submit water samples to ensure the water is acceptable for consumption. Residents are encouraged to talk to their doctor if they experience symptoms that may be related to the drinking water.
Instructions for Boiling Water
Fill a pot with cold water.
Bring to a rolling boil (watch for quick, steady bubbles from the bottom).
Boil for a full minute, even at high altitudes (some recommend boiling for 3 minutes).
Let it cool before use.
Store in a clean, covered container.
What to Use Boiled or Bottled Water For:
The village is encouraging residents to remember the following:
Filter first if cloudy: Let sediment settle or filter through a coffee filter, then boil the clear water.
Do NOT boil for lead: Boiling concentrates lead; use cold water for cooking or formula, or an approved filter instead.
Follow your notice: Advisories can differ; some “Do Not Use” notices mean no contact, even for showering.
Check for “Do Not Drink” vs. “Boil Water”: A “Do Not Drink” notice is stricter and usually means no ingestion, but contact might be okay.
