Spencer Carbery gave his tired players an early Christmas present after they defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-0 at Capital One Arena, Sunday.
After giving shoutouts to the penalty killers; Rasmus Sandin and Connor McMichael for their huge shot blocks; Jakob Chychrun for scoring the game-winning goal; and Logan Thompson for reaching 100 victories — “Their guy was f***ing good, but our guy was f***ing better” — Carbery ended his speech with a reward that made the players absolutely lose their minds.
“And this group coming together, you can see our identity every f***ing night how we come together all four lines, all six D, both of our goaltenders playing the right way,” Carbery said. “Enjoy your two days off!”
He then walked out of the room.
Excited Capitals players got up out of their stalls — some shirtless and screaming while others were fully clothed and in disbelief — and came together in the middle of the locker room. They then began jumping in a happy group huddle, as if school had just been canceled due to snow.
“Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!” they chanted together.
As the excitement began to dissipate somewhat, someone started singing the soccer chant ¡Olé! ¡Olé! ¡Olé! ¡Olé! ¡Olé! ¡Olé! and the rest of the players joined along, clapping in unison.
Please note that Ryan Leonard could be seen in the background of the video with his left arm in a sling.
This team is so very weird, but they are indeed my favorite. You go enjoy your 48 hours off, kings.
