Police responded after a car crashed into the front of a UPS store in northern Kentucky on Tuesday morning.Crews were called out to the store along US 42 in Florence for a report of a car crashing into the front of the building. Witnesses say a man was pinned underneath the car, with the tire on his leg.People from surrounding stores rallied together to lift the car off his leg and pull him out from underneath.Some nurses nearby were able to place a tourniquet on his leg as fire crews responded. The driver was an older woman, witnesses tell WLWT. It’s unclear what exactly caused the crash. Photos show the front of the building completely broken with glass shattered all over the floor. Tom Pierson, a customer at Nells Barber Shop, described the moment, saying, “Next thing I know, I hear a big boom, smack into the building.” The crash rattled the entire plaza along Route 42, with Darnell Bonner, owner of Nells, recalling, “We were all just cutting, chopping in the shop and we heard a big noise.”Julio Martinez, another barber, said, “I think it was instinct everyone just ran outside.” Bonner added, “And then we hear a yell – like someone screaming for their life – yelling help.” The barbers and their customers quickly transitioned from cutting hair to acting as a human car jack to save the man pinned under the car. With no equipment or tools, the group worked together to lift the car. “Ultimately we had to get a bunch of us on there to lift the car up and somebody was able to pull him out,” Bonner said. Later, the man who was run over returned to the barber shop in his hospital gown to thank his rescuers. “They are awesome guys – I thank God for every one of them,” said Brian Smith, the victim.
