Ben Foster couldn’t hide his true feelings on Matheus Cunha after the Manchester United summer signing’s debut season at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim.

Matheus Cunha was the first major summer signing that Ineos made ahead of the 2025-26 Premier League season, with the Red Devils triggering his release clause.

The Red Devils paid a hefty £62.5m fee to fellow Premier League side Wolves back in June and Cunha officially became a Manchester United player.

Cunha has been a key player for Ruben Amorim in the current campaign and the 26-year-old Brazil international has impressed with his overall attacking input.

The former Wolves ace has netted only once and picked up a single assist in 13 matches across all competitions since his summer move from the Molineux.

Matheus Cunha returned to the Molineux for the first time since his club exit and the Brazilian forward picked up an assist in Manchester United’s 4-1 win over Wolves.

The Brazil ace started in attack alongside Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount and Cunha set up Bruno Fernandes for United’s opener against Wolves on Monday.

Cunha played the full 90 minutes in the Premier League clash at the Molineux and made an impact for Ruben Amorim’s men in their thumping 4-1 victory.

Speaking ahead of United’s result against Wolves, Ben Foster waxed lyrical about Cunha’s role at the Red Devils and his performance against West Ham last week.

“Cunha is a player, by the way,” he said on his Fozcast podcast.

“Honestly, I went to West Ham the other night. Honestly, he is unreal, by the way.

“He just looks like he’s getting even better.”

What Ruben Amorim sees in Matheus Cunha’s role in his Man Utd tactical system

Despite not posting the assist and goalscoring numbers of fellow summer signing Bryan Mbeumo, Cunha’s influence has been clear-cut for United on many occasions.

Speaking after the Wolves match, Amorim admitted that Cunha complements both Mbeumo and Mason Mount in the Red Devils’ attacking line-up in his tactical system.

“Yeah, I think especially with system v system, if you take [out] some of the reference, then [Matheus] Cunha can help us to do that,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“We need to avoid the crosses that I think we have more space to [complete] corner runs, all this type of play and the quality that they have when they have a little bit of space.

“I think they did really well and they understood the type of game that they should play, with the characteristics that they have.”

United will now face Premier League side Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Monday next week before travelling away to Villa Park to face Aston Villa on 21st December.
