For Huffmyer, what should’ve been a 15-minute drive from Warrendale to West View turned into an hour. “I took down 79, and I was going to try to go on 279, but obviously it was closed. So I kept going and I’m down at Mt. Nebo now,” Huffmyer said. Though it’s unclear if weather played a part in the crash, a salt truck was on scene treating the road. A tractor-trailer crashed and rolled onto its side, causing PennDOT to close southbound I-279 between I-79 and Exit 8 (Camp Horne Road).
Pennsylvania State Police said the truck was carrying approximately 46,000 pounds of steel coils. No injuries were reported.
