LYON TWP. — The plan to turn the Coyote Golf Club course into a development with 283 homes is moving forward.
The planning commission has unanimously recommended approval of a final plan for Tribute at Coyote, formerly known as Settler’s Ridge, with 183 single family homes and 100 townhomes on 202 acres at the northeast corner of Milford and 12 Mile roads. The township board is expected to vote on the final plan in 2026, perhaps as early as February, Planning Coordinator Katherine Des Rochers said, adding it is likely to be approved as it has less density with six fewer homes than a previously approved preliminary plan.
“The preliminary approval is the most important and as long as (the developer) doesn’t come back with an off-the-wall change, it’s just tying up loose ends and making things official,” Des Rochers said. “This will be the first time the board sees the final project, but the board also approved the preliminary plan.”
That approval came two years ago and she noted that Lombardo Homes got their submittal for the final review in “just under the wire.”
Des Rochers suspects utility work and acquiring necessary easements may have been responsible for the delay.
Two readings by the board will be required for final approval of the project, which would also be valid for two years.
“I think people have accepted the golf course is going away and the development is coming, so now they just want to know how long they can golf,” Des Rochers said.
Dick Osburn, owner of Coyote Golf Club, expects the course to be open for all of the 2026 and 2027 seasons, providing the same quality golf that he said has been provided since 1994 under his ownership.
Construction on homes, he said, would start in the fall of 2027.
“It’s been good,” said Osburn, who is retiring. “I am just old and nobody wants to buy it as a golf course.”
