Singer Carrie Underwood’s blonde hair has become her signature look over the years. In fact, it’s hard to remember a time when she wasn’t rocked a bright, bleached look. But all of that changed this year. After ditching her signature look this summer and returning to a more natural light brown shade, Underwood seems to have gone even darker for the winter months.
In a new selfie which the singer shared on Instagram, she showed off her long, curly brunette locks—and she really does look almost unrecognizable.

She shared the selfie to promote her charity work with St. Jude Children’s Hospital, which specializes in childhood cancers and pediatric diseases. As she wrote in the caption: “Every child deserves hope. Become a Partner in Hope with @stjude and get your @musicgives shirt at musicgives.org and help kids facing cancer. ❤️”

Underwood previously went a little darker in August. “Well, the last time I saw my natural hair color, I was probably about 12 years old, but I thought it might be time to give it a second chance,” she wrote in the caption at the time.
As Underwood explained back in 2012, she stuck with the platinum blonde for so long because she didn’t want to “shock” her fans.
“I’d love to do a little more with hair color. I’ve always been blonde! The problem is, I don’t want to shock people—like if I dyed my hair brown, I don’t want people think I’m turning dark and serious,” she said to Refinery29. “I wish I had started changing my hair around in the beginning, then it wouldn’t be such a big shock if I did something like that now.”
