December is full of so much winter magic, from holiday cheer to the season’s first snowfall. Kids love to play in the snow (and, let’s be honest, adults get in on the action, too), but other species also love the snow just as much as we do.
Even exotic animals like emus can enjoy a romp in the snow! Mom and farmer @leahlynn0209 captured one of the sweetest memories on film when she saw her daughter frolicking in the fresh powder with her emu buddies, who were even more excited for the winter weather than the little girl.
They are the picture of joy! The darling little girl has the biggest smile on her face as she runs alongside her feathered friends, but I have a feeling Mom is smiling just as much on the other side of the camera.
“Emus are always running around frantically like they’re late and can’t find their keys,” joked @melnrp2. Isn’t it the funniest thing? Despite their massive size and intimidating looks, these flightless birds aren’t exactly the picture of grace.

Even if they’re not majestic, emus like this bunch can be wonderful farm birds. Not only are they fun to bond and care for, but they also lay large, blue-green eggs that are roughly the equivalent of a dozen chicken eggs.
Animals in the Snow
As adorable as these frantic emus are, they aren’t the only animals that enjoy the snow. Some dogs adore frolicking in the snow, and so do some farm animals!
Of course, species that are built for cold, snowy climates will be much more comfortable in the snow than animals that are made for the desert. Species that live in a variety of climates may have special adaptations during the wintertime, but even those that don’t may enjoy a romp in the snow, just like Leah Lynn’s emus!
