MISSOULA, Mont. — Two Washington men are facing felony wildlife charges after investigators say a trophy bull moose was unlawfully killed and left to waste near the Idaho–Washington border.

Idaho Fish and Game conservation officers say the moose was killed the morning of Nov. 25 near Twin Lakes, and officers were alerted the following day by a concerned neighbor who reported suspicious behavior. Officers contacted the men and found they had a Washington moose tag but no Idaho tag, and the carcass was only partially processed more than 24 hours later, with investigators determining the meat was not salvageable.

The Kootenai County Prosecutor’s Office has filed felony charges including unlawful take and waste of a bull moose and concealment of evidence; the case remains active, and officials are asking the public to continue reporting suspected wildlife crimes through the Citizens Against Poaching hotline.
