DURHAM N.C. (WTVD) — Durham County Sheriff’s Office released crime statistics covering the first nine months of 2025, and they show a slight decrease compared to last year.

When comparing Jan. 1 through Sep. 30, DCSO registered a 4% percent decrease in the “Top 8 Crimes.”

This category includes murder, sex offenses, robbery, burglary, and arson.

“Just last week, the Sheriff’s Anti-Crime and Narcotics Unit busted a methamphetamine sting operation in a local Durham neighborhood, demonstrating the excellent work our deputies are doing by patrolling 24/7 as we continue working together with our community to reduce crime,” Durham County Sheriff Clarence Birkhead said.

In October 2025 alone, DCSO recovered seven stolen vehicles across the county, reportedly taken from Durham, Wake and Lee counties.

Firearms data shows 129 were seized, 32 were reported stolen, and 31 were recovered or found.
