The House and Senate returned to Washington for the last week before the long holiday recess, and the expiring Affordable Care Act subsidies will take center stage once again.

The House is expected to vote on the Republicans’ health care proposal, as well as an ObamaCare subsidies extension amendment. The Senate will also take up the National Defense Authorization Act, which passed the House last week.

Many lawmakers are already bracing for another government shutdown in January, as health care negotiations have stalled and December’s recess quickly approaches.

President Trump, meanwhile, weighed in on the deaths of director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele in an apparent homicide, chalking it up to “Trump derangement syndrome.” His response drew criticism from fellow Republicans.

“I thought he was very bad for our country,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office during a Mexican Border Defense medal presentation Monday afternoon, calling the late director “deranged.”

Trump will later host a couple of Christmas receptions at the White House.
