Bears are very curious creatures. They are also always on the lookout for food, especially in the morning, after campers or cabin dwellers might not have properly put away all their food or cleaned all the cooking supplies from dinner the night before.
And that is the setup to this video, in which a family of black bears decided to drop in on a human family at their cabin right when they were in the middle of having their morning coffee on the back deck.
According to this video, a woman’s parents were sitting outside by the fireplace, enjoying coffee, when the dad suddenly noticed that a black bear had appeared. That there was only a baby, but if the baby appears, that means the mama bear is likely not far behind.
As soon as they noticed the bear, the human family took refuge inside the cabin, and just a short while later, the rest of the black bear family began to appear.
Apparently, this human family had had grilled steaks the previous night, and its lingering scent attracted this black bear family to their cabin deck.

As this video shows, the bears very carefully sniffed around the grill as well as different parts of the deck to see if they could locate the source of the tasty deliciousness that had drawn them there.
At one point, one of the cubs got close to the open flame of a fire pit, curious to know what it was, and very adorably backed away when they realized how hot it was. After checking for food and realizing that there was none there, they left.
How To Watch Out for Bears While Camping
This video also, very importantly and wisely, notes that it is never a good idea to approach or feed black bears. And as such, campers should always follow some basic safety rules if they are staying in an area known to have bears.
It is imperative to properly store food and other scented items so that campers do not inadvertently invite bears to their cabin or campsite.
This is especially important because black bears have an incredible sense of smell that allows them to detect possible food from up to 20 miles away!
One mistake that campers have made is eating the food inside cars. The Bears have no issues breaking into and totally destroying a car if they know food is inside it. That’s why it’s a good idea to keep food inside a bear locker. Bear canisters serve a similar purpose.
Although bears can still smell food inside a bear canister, they just can’t break it open to get the food inside. But that doesn’t mean they won’t try their hardest to get to it!
