The iconic rock band, Jane’s Addiction, announced Wednesday that it is splitting, more than a year after the abrupt end of their tumultuous reunion tour.
According to Syracuse.com, the rock band announced that its musical partnership is over, with lead singer Perry Farrell and the rest of the band releasing separate statements. The outlet reported that both addressed the fallout from an onstage altercation in September 2024, when Farrell punched guitarist Dave Navarro, ultimately ending the reunion tour unexpectedly.
In an Instagram post, the group clarified the events surrounding the cancellation of their 2024 tour following a show in Boston.
They wrote: “After that show, without notice to Perry, we unilaterally determined it would be best to not continue the tour and made inaccurate statements about Perry’s mental health, which we regret. Today we are here to announce that we have come together one last time to resolve our differences, so that the legacy of Jane’s Addiction will remain the work the four of us created together.” The post concluded by thanking fans and saying the members look forward to the future as they embark on separate musical and creative endeavors.
Farrell also posted separately on Instagram to address the band’s split and the 2024 incident in Boston.
“I’d like to address what happened on stage last year. I’ve reflected on it and know I didn’t handle myself the way I should have. I apologize to our patrons and my bandmates for losing my temper and for disrupting the show. Jane’s Addiction has been at the center of my life for decades. The band, the songs, the patrons and the impact that we’ve had on music and culture mean more to me than any word I could ever possibly write down. My aim has always been to give our audience the best possible show, something real, honest, and positive. In Boston, we fell short of that, and I’m truly sorry to everyone who was impacted. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank each and every one of you for your continued love and support.”
According to Syracuse.com, the group is best known for its ’80s and ’90s alternative rock hits, including “Jane Says,” “Stop!” and the Grammy-nominated “Been Caught Stealing.”
Lead singer Perry Farrell is also known for his work with Porno for Pyros. Guitarist Dave Navarro has played with Red Hot Chili Peppers and appeared on TV shows such as “Ink Master.”
Bassist Eric Avery spent nearly two decades with Garbage, and drummer Stephen Perkins has performed with Hellride, The Panic Channel, Rage Against the Machine, Nine Inch Nails and Infectious Grooves.
The band has gone through several lineups over the years, including stints with Duff McKagan and Flea, following a 1991 farewell tour that launched the Lollapalooza festival.
Farrell, Navarro and Perkins have performed on all Jane’s Addiction releases, and their 2024 single “Imminent Redemption” marked the first time they recorded together with Avery since 1990.
