A ruptured water main has shut down part of Union Street in Spartanburg, South Carolina, according to the fire department.The Spartanburg Fire Department said this happened near 801 Union St. According to officials, crews are still trying to isolate the exact spot the water is coming from. The area is undergoing a four-mile long line replacement.Spartanburg Water said most customers in the area are on the new line. The old line is the one with the problem.Repairs are being made and afterwards the affected area will be thoroughly flushed and tested. This includes the flushing of fire hydrants. As a precautionary measure, after water service has been restored, and test results can be reviewed, customers are advised to boil water intended for drinking or cooking vigorously for at least one full minute prior to use. Also, any ice made from water that has not been boiled should not be used for drinking purposes.The boil water advisory is in effect until further notice.Expect detours in this area and find an alternate route if possible.
