A man is in critical condition after being shot several times by police in the Russell neighborhood.According to LMPD, it started around 11:17 a.m. Thursday when ShotSpotter picked up gunfire in the 2300 block of West Chestnut.When they responded to the area, they found a man and a foot chase ensued. It ended in a nearby backyard.Police said the suspect told them he had a gun and would only show one hand.When he reached for his waistband, one LMPD officer fired multiple times and the suspect had several gunshot wounds.Once it was safe to approach the suspect, LMPD said officers rendered aid to the suspect. He was then taken to a hospital.At last check, he was in surgery.No officers were hurt. Body worn camera is expected to be released within 10 business days, which is LMPD’s policy.This is at least the 9th LMPD-involved shooting this year.
