The National Park Service is asking the public for help identifying two people captured on video allegedly throwing rocks at an elephant seal on a Point Reyes National Seashore beach.

Video footage from the park’s Chimney Rock livestream on Dec. 6, shows a woman and man throwing multiple rocks at an elephant seal resting on the beach, the agency announced in a Facebook post Friday. Several of the rocks appeared to strike the seal, park officials said.

Elephant seals are protected under the Marine Mammal Protection Act and other National Park Service wildlife regulations.

The woman in the video was described as an adult with black hair, who was wearing a white baseball cap and a red and dark-colored jacket and jeans. The man, who also appeared to throw rocks at the seal, was wearing a dark jacket with neon yellow accents and carried a DSLR-style camera, park officials said.

The park service is urging anyone with information on the incident to call investigators at 888-653-0009.
