This morning the Honolulu Fire Department rescued an injured hiker on Koko Head.
HFD received a 911 call at 10:08 a.m. that a female hiker in her 40s suffered and was unable to make it down the steep trail on her own.
According to a media release, the department dispatched six units staffed with 18 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 10:18 a.m. and firefighter made their way up the trail on foot.
The second arriving unit secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.
Once firefighters reached the injured hiker, they conducted a medical assessment and provided “basic life support.”
The hiker was ultimately hoisted into a helicopter and safely transported to the nearby landing zone, where medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 11:12 a.m.

In HFD’s news release, it urged hikers to be careful and realistically assess their fitness and hiking abilities before hitting a trail.
“Compare your level of fitness, ability, and experience with the trail description,” the department said. “Be practical and realistic. There are a wide variety of trails in Hawaii, so pick one that suits your level.”
